Bella is a set of headwrap and guantlets… it is a set that I designed for my daughter Kimimae. Kimi always wanted to have her pictures online.. so now she has gotten her chance for being my model and thanks my friend Karen K. for taking the pictures…

I am proudly introducing Ruffles Cardigan for the January 2011 Issue of Creative Knitting. I love this cardigan and the fact that it made its way to the cover of the magazine is overwhelming. Here is some detail about the Ruffles Cardigan.

Description
The Ruffles Cardigan features 3 rows of ruffles on each side of the body along the v-neckline. Ruffles are worked in a lighter weight of the same yarn that is used to work in the main body. There are 2 ways to work the ruffles; you can worked the ruffles seperately and sewn onto the cardigan or worked them by picking up stitches on the surface of the cardigan.

Size
S [M, L, 1X, 2X]

Finished Measurement
Chest: 34 [38, 42, 46, 50] inches
Length: 22 [22.5, 23.25, 23.5, 24] inches
Sleeves Length from Underarm: 12 [12, 12.5, 12.5, 13] inches

Gauge:
21 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in Stockinette St using MC with Size 6 (4.00 mm) needle after pressing.
24 sts and 30 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in Stockinette St using CC with Size 5 (3.75mm) needle after pressing.
26 sts and 30 rows = 4 inches / 10 cm in Twisted rib using MC with size 5 (3.75 mm) needle after pressing

Yarn
Tahki Yarn – Cotton Classic [100% Mercerized Cotton; 108 yards /100m per 50g skein]. – MC
Tahki Yarn – Cotton Classic Lite [100% Mercerized Cotton; 146 yards /135m per 50g skein]. – CC

A little story about this cardigan.. I initially worked the sample in purple and after the editorial review, the editors decided that they would like the sample in Red instead. Hence, I have knitted the sweater twice… and the cardigan came out beautifully and the finished products made all the late nights all worth it. Also, when I designed the cardigan, I have also designed a matching purse for the cardigan… stay tune for the Winter/Spring 2010/2011 Issue of Knitscene for the preview for my ruffles purse. The new Knitscene issue should be available sometimes next month.

The preview for Interweave Winter 2010 issue is available on the website. I am glad to be part of it.

The slouchy Cable Pullover features overall lace with chunky cable neck and shoulder trim. The pullover is worked in one piece until neck shaping. The sleeves are worked by casting on stitches from the body piece.

Finished Size:
34¾ (38½, 42¼, 46, 50, 53½)” bust circumference. Pullover shown measures 38½”.

Yarn:
Berroco Lustra (50% wool, 50% Tencel Lyocell; 197 yd [180 m]/100 g): #3140 Montmartre (blue), 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8) skeins.

Needles:
Sizes 7 (4.5 mm) and 9 (5.5 mm): 29″ or longer circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions:
Markers (m); stitch holders; tapestry needle; cable needle (cn).

Gauge:
17 sts and 22½ rows/rnds = 4″ in lace patt on smaller needle using one strand of yarn; 17 sts and 21 rnds = 4″ in twisted rib on larger needle with yarn doubled, after blocking, slightly stretched so p2 columns appear about 1 st wide; 27 sts of shoulder cable measure 2½” wide using one strand of yarn and smaller needle.

The winter issue will be available on newstand end of November.

It took me long enough to place an order of a yarn that is launched by one of the most talented designer. I never was a fan of wool because of my sensitive skin. But time has changed… a good spun wool yarn should not be the case… I have heard nothing but good review of the yarn and I can’t wait to get my hands on…. and believe me, the first thing I am going to make from SHELTER will be all mine…

Won’t the color, Sweatshirt, looks great in a fitted cable cardigan?!?

What have I been up to last week or so?
1. got one of the project commitment completed for the magazine and sent out for editorial…
2. Got the pictures taken for another project commitment and have started charting the pattern…
3. One submission done..

Not that I sleep much anyway… but for the last few nights… it was rather brutal… but it’s in a good way… since I am doing something I enjoyed.. I have been spending time.. sketching… playing with yarn.. and working on the swatch… just check out my messy workspace.. basically in the bed in my guestroom… and a pile of beautiful yarns from Quinco & Co, Spud and Chloe and Waterloo Wools… and yes… they are all skinny yarn… and may be a skein or 2 in DK weight…. I am seeing a lot of gloves… sock.. shawl… and lightweight cardi in the next 2 months… btw, I didn’t even take picture of my other corner of the bed.. which have another pile of worsted weight and bulky yarn for a couple of sweater design… yeap… looks like a very busy couple of months before the holiday… not all of them of course are for the magazine… some are just simply projects that I have been putting aside because I am so busy… may be I will finally squeeze in time to work on a sweater for myself….

Of course I am not talking about myself as a cover girl. I am no model material of course… don’t have the look and the body and the move to be one. However, I am very excited to see my twisted beanie and mitten set made it to the cover of November 2010 Issue of Creative Knitting! It was such an honor and I cannot expressed how excited I am!

I first got the news about the cover from Barb, the editor of CK when I was in the midst of getting ready for my camping trip. Barb would like me to keep it as a secret until the issue goes live… so I kept my excitement and went on to spend time a few days with my family in Pentwater, MI. The weather was perfect, the beach was beautiful and spending quality time with family did help me not to think and talk about the magazine cover.

And now, the magazine has gone live. I have not problem sharing my excitement with all of you. So go ahead.. and grab a copy!

Just got the sneak preview on the Interweave Knits Weekend issue… the issue will not go live until Sept 28.. but you can take a preview on all the patterns in the issue on the interweave website. I am fortunately enough to be part of it. My Amelia Cardigan is a a very classic girl cardi.. it work seemlessly from bottom up. Amerlia Cardi features raglan sleeves and overall eyelet motif. The unique feature is the cable weaving on the empire waist line… The cable weaving provide unique look and texture to a classic child cardign. I provide sizes up to 33″ chest; hence, it can fit a 10 years old comfortably. The cardigan should fit 2-3 inches positive ease. Introducing Bonnie – Accessory Collection 1 September 2, 2010

Bonnie Mitt


I am very excited that my accessory collection for the Fall is shaping up. I first introduced ‘Victoria’ yesterday and today, let me introduce ‘Bonnie’; a fingerless mitten design.

The inspiration of ‘Bonnie’ came from my dear sister ‘Bonnie’. Bonnie is my rock. I know that I can tell her anything and she is always there for me. Bonnie is always there to listen and provide her honest opinion and support. It have been a very tough year for me and without Bonnie’s support, I might not be able to pull through. I chose a rather simple lace motif with twisted curvy border; the curvy border between each lace repeat looks like the gentle wave in the water… I love the water, living in West Michigan, I am lucky to be so close to Lake Michigan.. the curvy border reminding me the wave by the lake.. it’s so beautiful and calm and relax… and my sister Bonnie, is like the gentle wave in the lake, she can always calm me down and give me an ease feeling when I am stressing out… although Bonnie is rather tense and stress out sometime.. and very intense in some occassion or many occassion.. but she will always be my calming wave. In addition, her chinese name means ‘smooth, wave, round’ so the lace motif certaily represents her well.

So to my dear sister, Bonnie, this post is dedicated to you by your always busy and stress out sister… and with your support.. I know I will always be OK. Thanks for being so supportive and being such a great sister.

Just want put a little bit more information about Victoria Gloves and Socks. I have received quite a few inquire on where to buy the pattern for Victoria gloves. I am currently working on the pattern and I am expecting it to complete by this weekend. Hence, for any of you who is interested, there is a few way to get the pattern:

1. Come back to my site and go to pattern page, I will post a link that will link to Ravelry download.
2. Go to Ravelry.com and search for Silka Burgoyne or Kaleido, you will be able to see all my designs and purchase it from there.
3. Go to etsy.com/silkaburgoyne, I will put it on my etsy story when it come available
4. If you are in Michigan, Cleverewe in Ada, MI will carry my pattern exclusively

I am also working on a relationship with Waterloo Wools, Ontaria, to sell my patterns.
